a girls felt bag

I have been meaning to share this sewing project with you. Kimberley made majority of it. She asked to do some sewing a while back, and after picking up some craft books from Target, aimed at children, she chose this bag from the book.

Made from felt, and a bit of our own ideas, she came up with this. Felt is great to work with, while they are getting their hand around handstitching, no hems are required, and relativley easily to cut. Buttons add a simple, easy and effective extra. This is her finished project, and matched nicely with her sunday outfit for winter.

hook and more

I had to go and get some different sized hooks a while back, for a project, and I came across this pack of hooks. Every size ready at my side now! I have enjoyed working with this Boyl brand of hooks and like the various colours they come in!

granny bag

This was a nice quick whip up, completed by the time we got to Mt Barker. A simple bag, based on the granny stitch (well thats what I call it...) In my mind, I made it to go with Kimberleys sunday outfit, along with a matching, plain (no flower) headband and hoping to make a sleeveless vest to go over her summer dress, but I'm not having much success in finding a child sized one. If any of you crocheters out there do, please link me to it! I thought this bag would turn out a little larger, so it can at least hold her notebook, and not just a little packet of tissues.

The green bag behind is for Emma for sunday. I have modified the pattern to make it a bit bigger, and also added some more dc rows along the bottom, so the tiny things you find in little girls bags, won't fall out.

So,  I think this purple bag will find its ways into Nadia's hands, and a new bigger one will be made.

light blue...

This is a WIP birthday present for a little miss whose favourite colour is light blue. The pattern required bamboo cotton so this is the only light blue I could find. I am loving how it is turning out, and so different then working with wool or acrylic. While the cotton splits a lot easier, and working with a smaller needle for a nice tight result, it does take a bit more of concentration.

I will do a post with a finished photo and the web link, when its done!

her effort

After mastering the chain and a treble, this is her effort while sitting in the car on the way to Albany! An Enid Blyton book won her attention more then the crocheting...

It now sits in my basket in the lounge, ready for her to pick up and keep going, when she isn't reading...

8yr old fingers

During the past school term Kimberley has come to me a number of times with a crochet hook and a ball of wool, hoping I could spend some time with her and teach her how to crochet. As the school days are rather busy, with spelling lists and homereaders, I promised I would teach her in the holidays. Well, last night we sat down together and I showed her maybe twice how to hold her needle and how the wool goes inbetween and around fingers, and it wasn't another two times to show her how to make a chain, and she was away. As I type, I think we have about 3m of chain in blue wool in the lounge!

And seeing she practised her chain so much today, I had to sit and show her the next thing. The treble. And sure enough, she is sitting next to me busy making a 'granny square'.  So with 4 hours of sitting in a car coming up, I am sure I know what she will be doing, and I guess there will eventually be a post with her creation!

blue hOOt

hOOt is complete!

Just in time for young J, with, let me see, three "mummy can I have one like this?" and one from a teenager wishing she was small again...

hOOt was made from two patterns put together. Actually, one pattern and I designed the eyes myself after looking at another one (can't remember where I saw it for the instructions....)

Lets just say, one little boy isn't going to get lost in the white winter very quick with this bright blue hOOt.

I made it up using 6.0mm, with double strand 8ply for extra thickness.

colours used: bright blue, white, orange, brown and cream

there was polly... and along came hoot

Going back to school holidays a while back, we had an extra 6 year old girl staying with us for a few days. What better way to busy them in the holidays was with some handstitching. I cut out these cute looking owls from some fat quarters and felt, and away the girls stitched - well Kimberley and Hannah anyways, while Emma was content to put pins in the material. I quite liked the little stuffed toys, that a few more purple ones with extra ribbons were made (machine stitched).

My little 3yr old nephew fell in love with his sisters Polly, the purple one (top one) , and well thats not right for a little boy to have a purple owl to take to bed, so along came Hoot, quite a bit bigger and in boys colours. Oh and bigger loops of silky ribbon for little fingers!

Well, seeing he is coming over with his parents in the next week, DV, I am onto making him a "Hoot" he can take back to Canada and wear for their white winter.

Its a bit of a combination of a couple of patterns I found while searching for something totally different. Thats what so nice about the internet. Inspiration is endless!

Project hopefully completed soon.

postmark: to albany

Stitched up in the last 48hours, for a little girl in Albany named Bronwyn. Made again from 100% aussie wool from Sean Sheep, making it a nice warmth to wear.

This is a really nice simple and easy pattern to do, with not a great deal of concentration required! See my first post for the link to pattern.

"thats not a cow..."

This week has seen me complete the Cowl. And now its finished, made from 100% aussie wool, from Sean Sheep, ready for when my the globe trotting sister and her family arrive next week. DV.

When my daugher asked me what it was, I said "a cowl", and her response?

WIP ATM

I have had a few people ask what I am busy with ATM. I currently have three things on the go, with a "to-do" list as long as my arm.Well, here are some pictures of WIP.

I struggled to get the right colours for this one, so after asking for a bit of a personal suggestion from the mum-to-be, this is where it is at.

She is a blue girl just like me, so with a hint of red through out the blanket, it should be fit for a boy or girl.

 I really fell in love with this one. Just love the colour combination! (but then again, I love anything blue.)

finished

Here is one of the projects I have been working on. I was searching around the other week for something to make for a friend for her birthday, and just couldn't find the right thing, until I found this. It was something nice to do, using double strand and a small 1.75mm crochet hook rather then the big 5.00mms that I have been using and all dc over a wooden bead. Either a necklace, tie it tight for a braclet or hang it as an ornament. Simple yet effective.

I was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out. Think one must be added to my growing 'to-do' list, for myself.

KJ and Bruce have been richly blessed to have a junior on the way! So I now have every reason to come up with something 'neutral'. But I am having a hard choice choosing which colour lot to go with. Any opinions? And no, I can't share just yet what its going to be...

where the bug began

Going back to the school holidays, we were away for a week, and I found a crocheting kit in a local store to make a beanie. Looking for something different to do, I decided to see if I could remember back to my school days when I was taught crocheting. It didn't take long and this appeared, much to one daughters delight, and then another put an order in for her doll...

By the time we were home from holidays, I was itching to get on with some more. After a quick update look on a blog I follow, I found this newsboy cap pattern. ( I like the patterns they use, they are tried and tested, and guaranteed to work!) And sure enough, one wasn't enough. Three had to be made, and were made, and are very loved. Mr J even would like one! (time to hunt down a boy's beanie pattern for next winter I think.)

a tetra what?

another little creation that I have been fiddeling with in the last week. I stumbled across this tutorial for a tetrahedron coinpurse and really liked the idea of having it on a keyring, with spare coins at the ready! I also recalled seeing this girly ribbon (without being pink!) at our local craft shop, and thought that it would be ideal for this. Miss K has already eyed one off...

I guess there are many uses for this, even a dummy holder on the side of a nappy bag... will have to see where it gets used.

first post

Well here is my first post to see how it all works. The other night I completed a cute little hat for the newest member of our congregation. Not sure about you, but even though this is blue, I love the colours for a little girl.

I have used this crafty website and found this adorable pattern. Something nice and easy to whip up in an evening. I have a few more projects on the go, but when time allows, I will blog them too.
