Amigurumi Elephant {crochet}

It has been two months! Not really sure where that time has gone. I have been busy in the sewing room, enjoying the time I have in there as I know it will be limited in just over a months time.

One project, actually two, I have thoroughly enjoyed making since Easter are these elephants. Hanging out together in the cradle for the next 4 weeks to see which one will become a permanent resident in there*.

The pattern was purchased from the Stipenhaak website and it really was a well written pattern. The website is in dutch, but there is an option to translate the webpage into your language and also when you purchase the patterns, you can choose from a few languages. She also has a blog: Stipenhaak Blog with some trully beautiful pieces of amigurumi crochet.

I have used Bendigo Cotton 8 ply in Fawn for the body, head and trunk and some stripes.

All other colours are from the Moda Vera Mini Cotton range from Spotlight. I found this perfect as you only use a little bit especially doing stripes. 

Crochet hook: 2.75mm 

I have actually filled the main body with the craft pellets inside a material sack, to give the elephants some weight. The arms, legs, head and trunk are stuffed with polyfill.

 

What I loved about her blog, she has a video with a colouring changing tip. It is worth watching, and rewatching, and putting it into practice. I now enjoy doing striped amigurumi with out an steps at the colour change.

*There will dv be one elephant left over. Here I am hoping my sister who is due 3 weeks after me has the opposite to us, and we can post off the remaining elephant. If not, its sure going to be hard to find a new home for it.

Lucy Bunny {crochet}

Last week I posted the WIP of Lucy Bunny. Today I share with you the finished Lucy. She has worked up so well directly from the pattern. It sure was a delight to see her come together. She has been passed on to the little girl it was promised for. Just a year later...  Here are some snapshots of Lucy. She comes in on my favourites list for amigurumi crochet at the top with Froggy (on my banner at top of the page.)

Crochet: Amigurimi Frog

My largest Amigurimi crochet to date. I used 10ply wool from Bendigo with a 4.25mm hook.

I like adding stuffing pellets. It gives a bit of weight and makes it sit nicely. I have had that they sometimes find their way out through the little gaps, especially if forced. This time I added a sack of stuffing pellets that was stitched closed.

Crochet: amigurimi giraffe #2

Another giraffe. Zebi is very well loved in this house, and I just couldn't resist making another one. This time I used a variegated yarn - Stripped Effect by Carnival. It worked up a lot easier and no colour ugly changes going up the back of each piece.
After finishing it, I quickly managed to sneak in a few photo moments of her before she was squashed into a suitcase and traveled to the other side of the world to a little niece.

Crocheted: Zebi

Zebi the griaffe. 

A good stash-buster. I used all 8ply acrylic with a 3.25mm hook, so it is crocheted rather tight. I was then able to stuff all the bottoms ie bottom of legs, arms, body and the nose section with stuffing pellets and then with polyester filling, making the giraffe a nice weight and being able to sit with out being supported. 

It measures 40cm from the tips of his toes to the tip of his horns.

I don't often repeat doing a project, but I would love to see this one worked up in a beautiful cotton.

Zebi, hanging on for dear life as he is taken away into the world of imagination, where there are green grassy paddocks with white fences and endless horse jumps. Oh to be 3 again.

And why the name Zebi? Because he is stripey like a Zebra. (children's thinking)

Hungry Caterpillar

A few (quite a few) months ago I started this Amigurimi Hungry Caterpillar that I came across on Ravelry with a link to this blogspot. But as things go, I got sidetracted with other projects.
Last week, our kindy-going daughter did the Hungry Caterpillar topic at school, and that just gave me the enthusiasm to get this one cute caterpillar finished.

I had completed the red head, and two green balls of the body, before I had stashed it away. Then our youngest got the Eric Carle book for her birthday (yes we never had it!!) 
So last week, stretching over to this week, I completed the last 6 green balls, and then had the fun of stitching it together to get the arch shape, and then crocheting the little legs and antennas, and making the spikes down the back.

Emma patiently watched and waited for it to be complete, helped me find some buttons for the eyes,

and then this morning after the school run, while the towels were still washing, we all sat near the warmth of the heater, her and her younger sister busy with a Hungry Caterpillar colouring page,

and I completed his last leg, stitched it on, and took some photos.

After a trip to school for show&tell, he will make his home up on the bookshelf, with all the books.

One UFO turned WIP, finished. Now I must finish my Krista Throw and the Bouncing Ball Throw before I get sidetracted again... ahem.
