krista throw: denise's

Denise emailed me some photos of her completed Krista Throw sometime ago, and with her permission I share them with you. Made with beautiful colours, and nicely finished off.

Its amazing how using different colour combinations, gives the blanket a whole different effect, and even just the colour choice of each square can give that particular square a whole different look.
Love to see this one in real life!

Krista Throw - all done

I am very happy to share that I have finally completed my Krista Throw from Spotlights weekly block-release.

It will no longer be sitting in the basket on our lounge table waiting for another couple of minutes here and there...

Measuring approx 100cm x100cm

Being a sampler blanket, there are lots of different techniques used based on a couple of basic stitches. I am looking forward to using these in different projects.  It is not my ideal type of throw, with it all being different, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. Given a chance, the girls would claim it, but no, it will remain mine!

It was completed unfortunately during a time of physical unwellness and emotion that was placed on our path, so it will definately not be leaving our house. Instead it is all folded up on our wooden box in the lounge, with special memories and ready to grab for those snuggle-moments on the couch.

With another throw being a WIP and that has to be completed with in the next few weeks, I am also tempted to start another little project too, and then there was a young daughter that has requested a scarf to go with her new sunday outfit. My hands won't be idle.

And before you go, also check out Bec's Krista Throw over at Belle Cherie Handmade, which also turned out beautiful.

Wishing you all a good week.

block 16 - Krista Throw

And block 16, hot off the blocking board. Completed on a 4hour road trip after a long weekend spent away.

It really looks better now that it has been blocked and the lacey work has been pulled out a bit.

As for my Hexagon bag, it is coming along nicely. Updated WIP post coming soon.
Enjoy your week.

block 15 - Krista Throw

Oops, a late post. I forgot to put up Block 15. So here it is. Another Flower block, so it follows the colouring of my previous Flower blocks.

block 14

Block 14 now completed too. Granny square with a difference.
I first had to layout all the other blocks so I could decide what colours to use, and also try to show the pattern thru using the colours. When I had all the blocks laid out, I realised I haven't used much white even though this was a chosen colour for the square. There were a few blocks with it, but it needed more.

So this is what I came up with. Must say I did have to Frog-it a few times, but it was my own silly fault (and I realised at the end of it, I had done it right the first time...!)

block 13

Yay, block 13 is complete and blocked over the weekend. (it is square, I just can't seem to take square photos). Another nice flower one to add a bit of 3D to the throw.

I am a bit dissapointed, it does not show the true colour of the plum. This time it has really thrown it out as maroon. :(

Here is block 13 with a couple of the other flower blocks completed so far. I have kept them all with a plum flower, cream center and thick grey border with the other blocks all being random choice. Looking forward to getting it all joined together at the end. Every now and then I lay out all the blocks so far and try and picture it all finished. Only another 9 weeks to go...

And block 14 was released on Friday, and I haven't done any more then print it off... The way my week is looking, it might just stay that way for a bit longer too. :(

Feel free to leave comments too. Love to know who my readers are out there in this big wide world!

Enjoy your week.

Block 12

Last Friday's block 12 is completed:

If you look closely you can see the trebles going up and down and across. Another nice solid block to join in between the others. The photo below shows you how the rows are worked. Not around, not horizontal but on the diagonal!

Half way thru, my yarn ( I was getting to the end of my skein) was in a rather nasty mess. Wanting to just finish my block, I started using a new skein of the same colour, only to realise later when I was looking at the above photo that it was totally different! :( So I had a job to perservere and untangle the mess to finish off the square.

Thankfully this will be the only solid plum coloured square in the throw. I aim to have a solid block of each colour I am using in between the multlicoloured squares. I have kept this colour for highlights throughout the other squares. Hopefully we won't notice the slight colour change in the other squares.

**Since writing and posting this post I have managed to purchase some more of my original plum colour. At least now they will be all out of the same plum, and I won't be looking at that mistake, even if its only slightly noticable, for years to come.**
Putting that aside, I enjoyed this square, again learning a new stitch and can see myself one day making a baby blanket using this feature stitch. Also looks effective changing colours at the beginning of each diagonal row. Check out Becs Krista Throw block 12 here.

Krista Throw

Here are some more closeup shots of the squares I have completed for the Krista Throw Rug that Spotlight has running via Facebook at the moment. They release one square each Friday. Each of my blocks are done in a 6.5mm or 6.0mm hook and come out at approx 18cm square.

If you are looking for something to help you learn more stitches, I would recommend giving this throw a go.

**The photos dont really do the colours any justice**

Block 11: Another flower centered one.
Block 10 - basket weave, using 'front post' and 'back post' trebles. Must say I'm glad I conquered it, I now know how to do this stitch and once I had it figured out it wasn't so hard as it looks!

Block 9:

Block 8:

Block 7: clusters again.

A lady from our crochet group has made up some extra squares to join in with the blanket for those interested. Hoping to make mine a little bigger then just the 25 squares.

Extra Square #1:

Extra Block #2:

Spotlights completed throw in white:
Don't think I am going with their big edge border though....
Enjoy your week.

back on track

Sorry about the 'no photo posts' from last week. We managed to escape for a week just as family to catch up and we just happened to be enjoying this:

and playing hopscotch complete with stones:

But inbetween all the family time, I managed to work thru some of my crochet to-do list. My afghan got a few more repeats done, until I ran out of my sandy colour. Four repeats done, five to go. I also managed to finish off all the ends so far, on the road trip home. One less job that needs to be done at the end.

And I caught up with the Spotlight 'Krista Rug' blocks. 10 of the 25 blocks completed!
15 weeks to go.
Back at home I have actually re-done the white edging of all of them in a smaller hook which gives the edges of each block a nice firm edge and helps pull them square. I have now blocked these squares by the simple procedure of slightly spraying the blocks with a fine mist of water, and pinning them out to a 17cm square grid on a pin-up board, which now hangs on the side of my pantry drying. I can now appreciate the lacy blocks.

And the little girls gumboots are completed too, and seeing we had a bit of rain this morning (YAY!!)  I couldn't resist taking them near some water pooled on our deck.

And as promised a better shot of the colour of the boys gumboots:

And finally so far these holidays is the promised 0-3months pink cowboy hat that was ordered.

Now to get on with some extra squares, another George, and some ordered school colour headbands. Then we are nearly thru with my school holiday to-do list!

square #6

Friday saw Spotlights block #6 released. Down with a headcold it was a good day to sit down and get it done.

Bit more of an open block then the others, but once it is joined it should pull tight and be pretty in it. Oh and in the process of redoing square #4 to get the 'x' more noticeable.
